Feeding wild birds was once a topic for the winter month. During the cold season, the bird feeders and suet balls where hung and sunflower seeds spread. Lately, more and more voices – including some ornithologists – recommend year-round feeding of garden birds. The natural food situation of wild birds in the wild has changed dramatically in recent decades. The monocultures that now dominate our agriculture interfere so much with the balance of nature that insects, as well as wild plants, are being suppressed: the wild birds will be left behind!
